How to connect to MT Free network – universal way [#We tested it ourselves]
WiFi in Moscow subway in train cars recently became a reality – free internet "MT_Free" appeared on all branches. But the city authorities didn't stop there either and expanded the network to all public transport – buses, trolleybuses, streetcars and electric trains. Well, let's understand how to register in a personal account and how to connect to WiFi in the Moscow subway. I'm sure that after reading this step-by-step instruction you will have no more questions about how to log into your account via vmet.ro or gowifi.ru
It is quite difficult for a modern person to do without the Internet, interruptions with which can arise during a trip to the subway. To connect the Wi-Fi in the subway, it takes just a few minutes: after that, the user gets direct access to the Global network for reading news, watching videos, listening to music, etc. There are several options for residents of Moscow to connect to the Internet. Below we will consider how to do it without resorting to complex manipulations. Also of great importance is the observance of security measures.
Preliminary stage
To gain access to the Internet, it is necessary to take the following steps:
- register;
- Activate the Wi-Fi on your cell phone;
- Find the MT_FREE profile;
- To connect to the network;
- go to the browser and enter the address vmet.ro in the search engine.
In the window that pops up, the user will be offered two options for authorization – through Gosudlugi or phone. Each method has its own specifics.
Authorization via WiFi in the subway and ground transport
After logging in to the "MT-Free" WiFi network, the authorization page of gowifi.ru (Vmet.Ro) will automatically open. Since we are already registered, the login to the Internet will happen automatically without entering any additional data. Just choose the option "Login to the Internet" and wait about a minute for the commercials to scroll.
For the impatient, there is an option to disable the display of ads, but this service is already available for your money. At the dawn of the era of ubiquitous wifi in transportation, I practiced using a mobile version of the ad blocker, and it worked in the case of wifi connections in the subway. However, the metro's IT-specialists have figured out this trick and learned to block this way of bypassing advertising – until you look, no internet you are not entitled to. But we will talk about this in a separate article.
Where does the MT Free Wi-Fi network work?
When creating the modern network, it was decided to place access points in the cars themselves. This leads to the fact that the signal is often lost at stops, but during the journey it is stable. Every year, the network is actively expanding. As a result, now all kinds of public transport offer Internet access. It is enough to pay attention to those places where there is a special red sign "Unified Wi-Fi network MT_FREE":
- Buses – Not all routes have Wi-Fi yet;
- Streetcars – they're rare, but getting more and more modern, there's often no internet;
- Subway, MCD and MCC – stable signal on almost every branch;
- Trolleybuses – installed in several modern models;
- Shuttle buses – this area is just beginning to be mastered.
Land transport is not yet fully covered, but it is planned to improve the quality of connection and increase coverage in the next few years.
How Face Pay works
Here, too, not everything is so clear-cut. The system was tested for half a year, but was never fully completed.
I tested Face Pay at four stations. And only at two of them did the system let me in. But it did worked both without and with a mask..
The face reading process takes about 2 seconds. That's no longer than paying with a smartphone. The only question is how quickly the system decides to recognize you. I'm not sure there won't be any "traffic jams" forming at the entrance.
Perhaps it will get even better over time after more mass "testing" of the system.
Via telephone
This method is the most popular because of its simplicity. Authorization in this case is done via SMS.
The order of actions when activating WiFi in the subway via the phone:
In most cases, smartphone owners use this method of connection.
Via public services
This is the second most popular method of activating WiFi in the subway. To use it, the client must have a valid profile on this service.
Deactivating WiFi on the subway
There are several ways to deactivate WiFi in the subway. The most commonly used are the following options:
- Deactivate the wireless connection in the menu of the mobile device (section "Wi-Fi");
- disable the service from personal cabinet;
- To use Smart WiFi Togger application, which disconnects WiFi in automatic mode.
Having this information the user will be able to enter or exit the Internet quickly when in the subway.
Instructions for connecting to MT free Wi-Fi
MT free Wi-Fi in transport and public places of the capital is provided by . To connect to the wireless network for the first time, each user must register at the link https://auth.wi-fi.ru/auth. From now on, each time you connect, you will need to authorize yourself.
Registration procedure
To register at https://wi-fi.ru, click on the "house" in the corner on the left side of the page. Then choose one of the suggested ways:
In the first case you should enter the actual phone number, wait till you get an SMS with a one-time verification code, enter it. Mobile number will be automatically bound to your account.
If the second option is chosen the site will ask you to authenticate yourself. To do this, the user specifies the personal data and the password, and then you get access to your personal account. Note: Up to 5 devices can be connected to the free Wi-Fi at the same time.
Authorization
After identification on the official site, a person can go to the available free Wi-Fi connections and select there "MT free". One needs to go through the following basic steps:
Authorization in the Moscow Metro in MT free Wi-Fi is not always yes to users. Under the ground network is not always available, so SMS with the verification code does not come. Therefore, it is better to be identified in advance before going down to the subway.
A similar situation is observed with the aeroexpress trains. To be able to connect wirelessly without problems, you need to do it in advance before boarding the train.
Disadvantages of the service
The negative aspects of such a seemingly good option, are the following:
- Authorization problems. The biggest problem is that not all mobile operators have a signal in the subway. Accordingly, the SMS message may not come at all. Or it will come, but only when the person gets out of the car or even out of the subway. Then, of course, it will not make any sense. And the result is a vicious circle – no SMS comes in the subway, but there's no Wi-Fi outside the subway. Sometimes because of this problem, you have to ride in the car for a long time to finally pass this authorization procedure.
- Very often the signal is lost. This is especially true when a person travels between stations. When the car is stationary, in most cases the Internet is stable. This is especially noticeable on some branches, where the distance between stations is greater than others. It turns out that such Internet simply does not make sense. Some people find it easier to connect to mobile Internet and not torture themselves.
- Annoying ads. As mentioned above, commercials and images of an advertising nature appear immediately after authorization in the system, and in the course of using the World Wide Web. They can be removed, but at a cost. Sometimes an absurd situation occurs when the user tries with all his might to catch a stable signal, and as soon as he succeeds, advertisements appear. And when it disappears, the signal is unstable again. Of course, this does not happen often, but just imagine yourself in the place of such a user!
Some people might think that ads can be disabled with AdBlock Mobile or another ad blocker for smartphones and tablets.
But that's not true at all. At first this way worked, but over time the administrators of MT Free found out about it and started making blockers simply not work.
In fact, it is done quite simply. So you will have to watch the ads anyway, unfortunately.
Data transmission speed and existing limitations
The average mobile data transfer speed over the Internet is 100 Mbit/s. This figure is divided in equal shares by the number of connected users. When a large number of people are connected to free Wi-Fi at the same time, the speed drops significantly or even the connection is interrupted.
There is also a common channel of Internet access from the provider at a speed of 30 Gb / s. But this is still not enough to serve all subscribers wishing to connect to the Internet during rush hour. Therefore, it is planned to increase this value over time.
Application for automatic connection
Another problem is related to the fact that it is constantly necessary to connect manually. That is, each time you will have to look for a suitable point and make a connection to it.
If this is not the case for you, you can safely skip this section. And if the problem occurs in your case, the program Wi-Fi in the subway from the developer Dmitry Karikh will help.
As for iOS, there is no version for this OS.
But there are many other alternative programs, such as this one.
- Connecting to free Wi-Fi spots in the Moscow subway, aeroexpress trains, MCC, buses, trolleybuses, streetcars and other transport. Specifically, the program can work with such sources as MosMetro_Free, AURA, MosGorTrans_Free, Air_WiFi_Free, CPPK_Free and, of course, MT_Free and MT_FREE.
- Automatically connects when an available signal source is detected. The application runs in the background and constantly scans the environment for signal points. When one is detected, an appropriate notification appears.
- Create shortcuts to instantly connect to a specific point. Figure 5 to the right shows what these shortcuts look like. They're really easy to use – you just click and the Internet is connected.
As you can see, it's very handy. It also has other advantages.
The program is activated only when connected to the Internet. The rest of the time, it does not consume the resources of the device. It also stops right after disconnection from the network. Everything is very simple.
It is worth saying that the use of such software does not mean that you do not have to go through the authorization procedure.
Prospects of development
Of course, this service is very promising. If everything is done competently, it is possible to provide free Wi-Fi everywhere where there is land transport, and all over the country.
Of course, it will be very problematic to do this in the remote regions of Russia, but it is still worth considering a possibility.
Already now there is something similar in St. Petersburg, and residents of the second capital can use free Internet on transport.
There are several points on which it is very important for specialists to work, to make this service a real "sweetener:
- Providing an uninterrupted signal. This requires the use of better and more powerful equipment. It is likely that the city government will decide to invest in this.
- Providing higher speeds. Again, it's a matter of equipment. Because of the high load, the devices that are used now simply do not cope with the tasks assigned to them at the proper level.
- Providing a signal in all forms of public transport. Ambitious, but doable!
Public figures can work on these goals.
