Router with a dedicated line

The term "dedicated line" refers to a connection to the Internet through a specially laid physical communication channel. In other words, it is all ways to access the Net with wires. For example, GPON, Ethernet channel.

How to connect and set up a wi-fi router yourself?

Hello, friends. Today we will talk about what a "router" is and how to configure it. Internet at home is gone, as if by chance the weekend… You try to solve it over the phone, but… But when people hear such new and incomprehensible to them words, the topic seems even more complicated. In fact, there's nothing complicated, you just have to figure it out. And in this article, I will try to help you solve that problem. Since we have an informative topic, I will first tell you

Router – what is it?

"Router"….If you are a connoisseur of English, you have already corrected me. It is more correct to say "router". From the English word "root". That clears things up. English is the language of Great Britain, the ruler of the seas. And "routers" English navigators called their ship's logs and charts, in which were recorded the courses laid on the seas and oceans – often secret. Interesting and simple, isn't it?

Technology is new today, but the words remain – the old ones… A router is a router that connects your computer and the Internet. It's also sometimes called a "modem," but it's more of a habit. But, but it's clear to everyone … And, our modern "routers" also can be secret. The data are encrypted and protected.

You can connect to it a lot of other computers and phones – for example in the organization. In your home you can easily create your own little computer network. That's what this thing is for. – It connects several devices together in a network and routes data from each device strictly where it needs to go – routing.

And since the Internet is a computer network on a planetary scale, your computer has become a small part of the Internet.

Depending on the technology used, modern routers differ in their data transfer rates. If you are still connected to the GTS telephone line, such a device first "translates" the data from the "computer" language to the "language" of the GTS network.

And the incoming data on the contrary from the format of the GTS to the "language" understandable to the computer. Until recently, almost the entire "broadband" Internet was based on such technology.

Now used and more advanced things – the data transmitted directly to a dedicated cable (line), fiber optics. Or by cell phone (everyone is familiar with the LTE(4g) format. Data transmission speeds are increasing, technology is constantly improving. Satellite Internet is also one of them. And we have wi-fi routers at home.

How it works

To connect your office or apartment, you need to sign a contract with a provider. The work is carried out within 3-10 days of signing the papers. A landline phone is not required. Most often it is connected with a standard type of cable – twisted pair. The wire is "led" through a common router in a switchboard, and then into the apartments. Corporate Internet channels are set up on the same principle.

There are two types of dedicated line connection: twisted pair and fiber optic. The first option provides a stable connection at speeds up to 100 Mbit/s. It is recommended when laying the cable for a short distance (up to 200 m).

Fiber optic cable is a more expensive option. Data transfer speeds are up to 1 Gbps in most area networks. The maximum performance of fiber optic has not yet been reached, because its capacity is almost unlimited. The number of subscribers working simultaneously does not affect the speed and reliability of the connection.

Fiber optic cable is less susceptible to lightning strikes. It provides high speed Internet over relatively long distances – up to 2 km. However, if broken, it can be more difficult to repair than standard twisted pair.

Features of a leased line

A dedicated line has a number of undeniable advantages. The list includes:

  1. Using standard and simple equipment. The cost of network card – no more than 10 USD. Most modern computers are already equipped with it.
  2. Exemption of the telephone line from the additional load (xDSL).
  3. Fixed rate without per-second fees.
  4. Possibility to create your own corporate network.
  5. High speed internet. When laying fiber-optic it increases markedly. But the need for 1 Gbit / s rate is usually required only for businesses and organizations that transmit and receive a large flow of information via the Internet.
  6. Security. All traffic is encrypted through VPN gateways. You are reliably protected from viruses and hacker attacks while working on the Web through a dedicated line.

Despite the large number of advantages, there are nuances. For example, some providers take into account other services when pricing the connection to the leased line. The list includes placement of customer services, design and development of the server. But they are all necessary to maximize the effect of connecting your office or business.
